“I am interested in every patient as an individual. I customize each treatment, and truly want to inspire patients to improve their dental health. I am interested in helping patients maintain and/or improve their self-image through dental and facial enhancements. I don’t see only teeth to be fixed. One of our office goals is to be known for caring for our patients’ well-being. At the end of the day, I consider it a true priviledge to be able to help people.” — Dr. Mark C. Beal
Education and Experience
Dr. Mark C. Beal grew up first in Weymouth, then in Braintree, and has lived in the Boston area his entire life. The son of an anesthesiologist, he was inspired by his father’s knowledge of medicine, and his father’s dedication to meet personally with every patient to discuss their thoughts and issues, both before and after operations. In high school and college, Dr. Beal was fascinated by the sciences, the arts, and classical music. Dentistry was the career that encompassed those interests as well as his father’s example.
He received an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Clark University in 1968. In 1973 he graduated from Tufts School of Dental Medicine. After a year-long internship at the Bunker Hill Health Center, he associated for eight years with other dentists. Then in 1982 he opened his own office in Boston’s South End. After about two decades, this practice moved in 2002 and expanded to its current location at 328 Newbury Street.
Aesthetic Dental Goals and Continuing Education
“Dentistry is very exacting, and I strive to keep improving. When everything comes together, and I produce beautiful, comfortable results that patients appreciate, I am very happy.”
Dental aesthetics, restorations of superior quality, and personal caring are the main goals that Dr. Beal has focused on throughout his career. He uses premium materials, tools, and dental laboratories. He loves to re-create life-like forms, whether with single or multiple teeth, or with full-mouth rehabilitations.
Dr. Beal continually studies to stay current: to improve his own skills and to learn about the latest materials, treatments, and diagnostic tools. Every January he takes courses at the four-day Yankee Dental Congress. Every April he takes courses at the four-day American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry convention.
He has participated in an intensive implant study group, and during the year he attends lectures at the Restorative Dental Study Club of Cambridge, lectures as a member of the American Academy of Dental Science (an organization that was founded in Boston in 1867), and at monthly dental study sessions with a Spear Dental Study Club.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the American Academy of Facial Esthetics.
Family and Interests
He and his wife Linda, a doctorate in classics, have a son, Benjamin, who is a senior in college. Along with his daughters, Mariel and Hannah, he adores his grandson, Russell, and granddaughter, Cora Phyllis.
In addition to his family, Dr. Beal loves and supports classical music, opera, theater, ballet, and art. His other interests include hiking, skiing, running, astronomy, science, and history, but his main focus is dentistry!
